I had a few problems with xp, and like i have done many
times before, i formatted my main hard drive, knowing that
all my important documents were on my backup drive.
windows xp installed fine, but when i went into my
computer to copy the files across from the backup drive,
it wasnt there! i uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled but
it wont recognise it. device manager recognises it, says
its working properly.when i uninstall driver windows
recognises it, installs it, says its working properly but
it doesnt show up in my computer. Even when i install
windows, when it gives me the choice of the two drives, it
says the other drive has 38gb total, with 768mb free, but
it wont show up in windows! i really need get this info
back, but i dont know what else to try. disk manager is
reporting both drives as being active, ntfs and healthy

It might not have a drive letter, explorer needs that to navigate through it. You might also want to make sure you have permissions to that drive, same administrator credentials? can you see the other drive in the recovery console or any other form of ntfs dos?

im logged on as administrator, so have access rights and
the other drive is visible through disk manager, and setup
screen when i boot from xp cd. i notice in disk manager
that both drives are set to active, and i heard that this
is incorrect, how do i change it?
