no matter how i start up...it always goes to a screen,
where an error message is displayed.
The message shows - C:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run your CHKDSK utility.

After clicking ok on several of these messages...the
computer just stays at this screen and won't load...
And it automatically runs the utility...the problem still
occurs.

what's wrong and how do i fix it?

[Toshiba Satalite 2540 laptop]

I would like information on this as well. My computer is crapping on
me multiple times daily. I get the same error in the systray
referencing various applications that are open. There doesn't seemt to
be any pattern. After this happens a half dozen times or so, my
computer blue screens. After the restart, it goes in to CHKDSK. If I
cancel CHKDSK, the computer craps again. If I let it complete, I again
have usability for a couple of hours. I have even tried using the
extended CHKDSK utility (the five step version vs. the three step
version that the error seems to instigate). I still get the problem.

Any insight would be greatyly appreciated.

For both of you, this sounds like a hardware issue. You might have
overheating - a definite possibility with a laptop - or your hard drive
might be going. Travis, you didn't give any computer specs, so I don't
know if you have a laptop or not. Of course, with laptops you can't
really open the computer and watch it run to see if all the fans are
working, but you can feel it. Psycho_mantis69 - if your Satellite is
still under warranty, call Toshiba. Otherwise, it's time to run a hard
drive diagnostic utility to start with. Post back if you need more
help.
