I have tried to install XP several times now on a
secondary drive using two differnt XP CD's with no luck.
Even after unplugging everything unessential from the
computer and reformatting it, the installation will get
down to the "34 minutes remaining" and then just hang! I
don't get it? Anyone have any ideas??

Thank you.

You could have bad RAM, or you might just not be waiting
long enough, the 34 minutes is not a precise time.
Are these retail or OEM CDs? Full install or upgrade CDs?
Are you doing a clean install or upgrade?
How much free disk space is available? Have you set any
custom settings that may prevent the installation from
registering the newly install OS on the boot drive, so
you'll have a dual boot system?

Just restart the computer, install should
resume properly. Either ctrl+alt+del or reset.

First. Do you already have XP on your old drive? Do you have the floppy
that came with the new drive? Install the new drive as slave (change
jumper!) The floppy has a set of files that need to be loaded so that it
your OS can recognize the drive! After you set drives up, put floppy in "A"
drive and start computer. It should boot from floppy and install necessary
files on the new slave. Then remove floppy and restart computer. Windows
will know what drivers etc. to install and your computer should go. You
don't need XP discs unless you have no operating system on the master. Do
not put 2 XP operating systems on 2 different drives. The operating system
will only work on the master and anything else will confuse it. It should
set the new drive as Drive D or E or F or whatever depending on your other
poriferals.
