XP won't install updates

I installed a new motherboard... did the repair installation. Finally got XP
to load. XP has downloaded all the updates but it fails to install them. I
tried Mark F.'s suggestion to update the product key... but it said my
product key was the same as on the system... (I guess there wasn't anything
to update.) What else might I try?

Get Linux. They don't fuss around with keys and money.
