According to the microsoft website error has most likely something
to do with hd (or cabling) but both should be fine.
HD is connected alone to Ide1 of mobo, is't jumpered as master and
it's connected to end (=black connector) of ide cable.

Do not use master. Use single, often poorly documented. Try CS or removing
jumper conpletely.

When trying to install Windows Xp pro I get
the following bluescreen:

***
Kernel_data_inpage_error

STOP: 0x0000007A (0xE10213D8,0xC000000E,0xBF8E6534,0x0882A860)

The same ms-website says " the second of the 4 hexadecimal parameters
included in the first line of the STOP Message " may contain more
information on what caused the error.

Anyway the "0x000000E" which I got isn't listed on that page.

So far done: I tried different memory, motherboard, ide-cable (cd-rom in
same
ide-cable and in different cable than HD), bios is newest, I tested memory
with
memtest86.

Hardware: Samsung Spinpoint 40Gb hd, Club3d radeon 9200,asrock k7s8x,
amd duron 1400, generic 256Mb memory, keyboard.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

With some earlier windows I had a bit similar installation problems with
Bios "Bootsector virus protection" enabled .. But I didn't find such option
in asrock bios.

As Kent said, don't jumper a solo drive as "Master". WD drives are
especially finicky about this.
Check your drive documentation for proper jumper settings for a solo drive.

I fthe hard rive is rated ATA/100 or 133 be sure to use an 80-pin cable, not
a40-pin cable. Xp is known to be touchy about that, although win98 would
not mind.

Single isn't mentioned in samsung sp manual (=computer disc sized paper).
Only master/slave/cable select and same with size limited to 30Gb.

In my another computer I have Windows Xp and two samsung sp hd:s, both
jumpered as masters (different ide connectors), and this works fine.
Although I'm not sure how they were jumpered when windows was installed.

But Ill give cable select a try.
