My OS (XP home) seems to have suffered serious damage. After some ominous warnings (unable to save settings; repaired damage to registry etc) it now refuses to boot up properly. When I try to log on, I just get a blank screen.) I have at last, after several attempts, persuaded it to boot in safe mode with the C:\ prompt. Is there a way of restoring Windows to an earlier date from this screen (ie in DOS), or must I bite the bullet, reformat the HD and reload XP from scratch? Very grateful for any help.

Set you bios to boot from cd rom as the first boot device and boot from the
xp disk and do a repair install.
