I just did a complete install of xp-home on my 40 gig IBM
drive. I used norton to do a complete wipe to ensure all
old me files were gone. It ran fine for day. Then it
wouldn't boot ( black screen). I powered it off and back
on and got the safe mode screen. There are various levels
of safe mode ( command prompt, with communications,
regular). No matter which choice I take, it acts as if it
wants to start and then reboots back to the safe mode
screen. I used a boot disk and can see all the files on
the c drive, but it won't boot. I used nortons to reset
the mbr, but that didn't work. Is there a way to use a
boot disk, go to c: windows and start xp directly from
there? I also ran xp recovery console and ask that it do
the repair, but then it ask for the administrator password
and what OS to repair. I didn't set a password, so I just
hit enter, then it asked what OS or repair? XP was the
only one loaded. I entered windows xp, and it went back to
command prompt so I didn't make these entries correctly.
What are the correct entries to get recovery conslole to
repair an XP install, Also, any ideas on how to get it to
boot?
