xp won't automatically shut down

i recently installed windows xp ,,i was running 98.now when i shut down,my computer does not automatically turn itself off anymore.it gets to the part where it says "your computer is now safe to turn off',,but i now have to turn it off manually at my power bar.is there something i can adjust to fix this?more of an annoyance than problem really,,but its a pain crawling under my desk to turn off the power bar,lol
