XP with Word installed

I purchased XP without word on it. It only had the works
program. Now when I open a word document it is
automatically converted to a works word document rather
than staying with word.
Please help.
 
You can associate .DOC files with WordPad. Right click any .DOC file and
select "Open with" then located WordPad in the list and check the box that
says "Always use this program". Whenever you click to open a .DOC file from
explorer it will launch WordPad instead of Works. If you wish to open the
..DOC file into Works you can still do that by launching Works first and then
going to File->Open
 
I will give it a whirl when I get home. It's been driving
me batty. Thanks for your help.

You could purchase just MS Word and load it. I think I
saw Word 2002 for 49.95.
