Hi all...

We have 200 clients and they are all xp pro with sp2.

They are slow upon startup and logon everyday.

Using msconfig I found the culprit to be Symantec av 10.1.7.

When I disable the services related to this product xp flies.

Now I know I should take this matter up with the vendor but I thought I
might ask you all as well if anyone else had the same issue.

I have al ready optimize the av software to boost performance but it has no
effect.

The vendor is trying to work on this but they have yet to get a workaround
or solution...

I can probably disable the active scan feature but that will leave the pc at
risk...

Goggling this only point me to getting rid of this software brand and
getting a better or open source one.

We cannot afford any new software right now...
Open source option does not provide central monitoring or deployment…

Any help will be appreciated.

these steps were actually insider steps that symantec would use as a form of
optimization.

all our emails are scanned by 3 different systems times before releasing to
clients.

client's machines are patched on a frequnt basis.

we also have cisco IDS system for intrusion detction and etc...

Symantec (and McAfee) default settings would normally be set to scan
all file types. This would scan all files including the desktop
(which would cause a flicker.)
