XP Wireless Networking IBM t30

Not sure if this should be here or in a hardware forum. My CEO has an
IBM T30 laptop. The wireless radio will not find any networks when
you scan. I have uninstalled the device and the O/S has picked it
back up successfully. However, a scan finds no available networks. I
have updated the drivers, rolled back the drivers, etc. All to no
avail. It does not appear to be a hardware issue as the device loads
up successfully and does not report any problems. The laptop is about
4 years old now, so it isn't under warranty. Any thing else I might
could try short of having him go buy a usb wireless adapter. He lives
in Boston and I am in Texas so it is difficult to put hands on the
system.

I know experimenting with a CEO's gear is bad practice. I'd backup
and restore to a replacement laptop, until you get it fixed.

This might be a home hacker's solution to verifying part of the
hardware. Maybe there is an antenna problem, perhaps as the
result of some hardware maintenance that has been done inside the
laptop. I guess this software has a supported wireless chipset list,
so it may not work with just any mini-PCI or integrated wireless
it finds.
