Wireless connection sees the SSID and connects but IP
addresses are not assigned and defaultgateway is not
picked up as the wireless router.

Entered/reentered WEP keys to no avail, just doesn't seem
to want to assign an IP.???

any help is appreciated

Ensure XP firewall is not active - it is designed for use on single user
system dialups and willl block LAN traffic.
IP address - is this DHCP provided?
Is the DHCP server addresses setup and is the DHCP server running? - If not,
try a static IP in the same subnet to see if you can connect with that.
Is WEP running and does the client validate as connected with the correct
WEP?
Once you appear to have a connection, try pinging the Router or another
w/station's IP address - that will establish whether a usable connection
exists, before worrying about what windows is doing.

Other than that, what changes were made on Symantec's recommendation?

Did you recently install hotfix 826942 on your XP system? Is your
hardware WPA capable? Either upgrade your firmware for the router & card
to be WPA capable, or remove the hotfix.

Also you can check if this is really your problem by assigning a static IP
to your PC and checking if it works. If you can make it work with a
static IP, then this hotfix is probably not your problem.

Please followup with your results.
