I have experienced serveral hard crashes in WindowsXP (after
installing and trying to use Microsoft ActiveSync over a USB
connection.) The last crash left my system unrecoverable.
XP would progress to the point where the login screen should prompt,
then the keyboard leds, and optical mouse would flash once, and the
screen would go blank and stay there. If I booted to safe mode the
system would progress to the loading the last driver, mups.sys, and
then exhibit the same behaviour. I was able to boot from the XP CD
and press "R" and log into the repair console. From there I was able
to run chkdsk and it repaired the volume and recovered a couple of
files (related to outlook), but I was still unable to boot afer this.
I even tried swapping in a different vga card, and still was unable to
proceed futher.
Any other suggestions? In Windows2000 you could revalidate the system
files, is there a way to do this from the WindowsXP install CD? Where
is the bootlog for WindowsXP?
