I work with serveral users and sometimes you need to replace HDs or reimage
there laptops I need to know were XP stores the wep key for thier wireless
networks. I would like to restore that for them as many users just forget
the wep.

Encourage them to change to WPA.

While Shenan's answer was appropriate given how insecure WEP is, I
don't think it was the answer the OP was looking for. Also, even with
WPA, recovering the keys from a Windows install is the same process as
WEP.

I'm not sure exactly where the keys are stored, but if you are using
the built in Wireless Zero Configuration service under Windows XP, or
the WLAN AutoConfig under Vista, then you might want to take a look at
WirelessKeyView from nirsoft.

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_key.html

It allows you to easily save all keys to text/html/xml file, or copy a
single key to the clipboard.

It has a GUI but still retains command line options.

All that and it's freeware.
