I have a problem that occurred during a system update with a change in
broadband service. First I could not install provider issued security
package. I click on download icon and nothing happens. (Thought it might
be a bad link and went in through manually entering address) Still no good.
Thought Norton remnants might be causing problem so went through and got
Norton Uninstaller from their website. Ran program twice (had problems in
the past) Go to Control Panel and there is still a Norton program but no
icons to uninstall. Do reg check etc.. can't find anything. Call service
provider they are no help because they say any Norton product will not allow
their product to install correctly.

New problem arose after getting off the phone with their "service tech" who
even after pressing "1" doesn't speak English (Sorry another peeve) Now
getting web pages not loading (acting sort of like a security issue, but
can't tell because the page is blank)

Decide to try a system restore and now can't get that to load........HELP

System is generic
Intel 1.5ghz
integrated Intel graphic engine
512 ram
Was originally clean install of XP Home

Have you tried re-installing Norton THEN using the Norton Uninstaller?

No not yet. It is my sisters computer and I'll try that when I get there.
Just did a remote session and now can't even get file search to come up.

Thanx for quick reply

Using an ISP's setup disks can put all sorts of junk on the PC, I find it
better to set up manually

Most ISP "security" software will require a "working" Internet
connection. If the connection ever goes down (aka "off") then the
software will not protect your system or will make the system
extremely unusable (blocks all access since the sofware can not have
access to its "data" stored at the ISP.)

Thanks for all the replies but I've known about the problems associated with
various ISP supplied products and only specified installations were
installed. I am now looking thinking that a Java problem may be involved
because of problems that have recently come to my attention with certain
toolbars and Java not deleting previous installations when it upgrades.

Java never deleted/uninstalled old version when upgradeing.
The reason being was for compatibilty of older java apps
