Will the registry entries recorded by regmon or filemon differ when
done on a 2k machine .Hope you got the reason why I asked .

thanx
Kesavan

Not necessarily but they might,

Since there are drivers (inf files) made for win 2000 and win xp separately.

If you don't have XP, you can make larger XPE build on which you can install
drivers, and use regmon at the same time.

This should be accurate, but take extra care.

I meant to ask whether the installation on 2k as well as Xp would be the same ?
I believe it should be.however , im trying to understand the differences as well.

thanx ,

I know what you want to hear, but answer is not a simple one.

Install application can detect OS and use different files, and different
registry settings for each OS.

So basically you can't know what would be written to XP when you install app
on W2000.

There are times when setup does not care for OS. So basically there is no
straight answer.

Best thing you can do is to install on XP or some XPe build, and see changer
from there.

PS:
Read previous response also.

Thanx for hearing me right :) .Thats a lot of news.So its all going to
depend upon the writings in the inf .Wuld it be appropriate to compare
the writings in the inf (for xP and 2k) and then decide upon what to
do ?

Only if following applies:

1. You have same inf, and binaries for XP, and W2000.
2. In inf file there are no extra features (tags, os versions, etc) specific
to XP. (I have never seen one, only in doc).
3. You don't use setup app.

Then you should be able to analyze info for your component on W2000.
