i have the following scenario
i have a xp pro machine with the printer shared \\admin1\bensprinter
and the c:\ shared \\admin1\cdrive
i can see both shares from the vsta pc but get the error
windows can not connect to the printer access denied
i can access the cdrive share with no problem at all

You may want to setup the printer as local printer first and then re-map it
as a network printer. This search result may help.
