XP versus new laserjet printer

Just got a new laser printer, what's happening is, when I boot up my HP
computer with the printer in place the PC hangs at the HP advent Screen
before engaging windows.

So I have to shut down, remove the USB line for the printer and reboot, then
hook the USB back in place and the printer works fine.

Could this be a driver or firmware issue
Could it be a USB 1.0 versus USB 2.0 port issue
Or could there be a port conflict issue

What is bios set to boot from as first device? Make sure it is you hard
drive. I believe in HP you press F10 to enter the setup screen.
