when I click on the view network computers on my xp pc it
just sits there and the win2K laptop also says the network
connection is not avalible useing a wireless lan both ping
each other and get internet ok

If the IP address is set to Auto Assign, try turning
on "Enable NetBios over TCP/IP". TCP/IP Properties,
Advanced, WINS.

I have found that if this is off not only can the XP PC
not browse the network (although drive mapping works OK)
but other PCs may not be able to browse either.

If the IP address is set to manual assign this problem
does not seem to arise, probably because Windows changes a
heap of setting between manual and auto assign.
