I am updating a genuine XP Home version to a genuine XP Pro. I know it is
genuine as I purchased it from an authorized MS vendor and took it out of a
cellophane wrapped Microsoft box and all the tamperproof certificates are
attached to the package and holograms on the disk. At the end of the
installation I get an error msg "The instruction at "0x7726381c" referenced
at memory "0x00000000" could not be written. Click OK to terminate. Click
Cancel to debug." I click debug and the dialog box goes away. Then, when I
try to activate windows, I get an "Microsoft Out-Of-Box Expereince" message
that the program has to close. I haven't seen any other references to this
problem, but I'd sure like to hear from anyone who has an idea about what to
do next.

Did your XP Home have IE7 installed? That may be at least part of
the problem, as the Pro Upgrade install would have included IE6 .
Check Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and see if IE7 is listed
("Windows Internet Explorer 7"). If it is then try uninstalling it
now, which will put you back to IE6

Then go to the Windows Update site, do a check for updates and install
them.

Good luck.
