I would like to find out if there is a work-around to
upgrade from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows Server
2003 without actually having to do a fresh install.

No, there is no "work-around". A server O/S is not designed to upgrade
over a workstation type O/S. You'll need to perform a "clean install"
of Windows 2003 Server on a clean drive or partition.

Greetings --

There's no work-around. By design, one cannot move from a
workstation OS to a server OS, or vice-versa, without performing a
clean installation.
