I have a Compaq Presario 5000Z. I previously had upgraded from Windows Me to Windows XP Home Edition. I did not change the file system and left it at Fat 32.
I recently took it to a computer shop and had a 120GB hard drive installed and the old HD cloned to the new. I also had 256 of Memory added to my 128.
The technician had trouble cloning the drive because of the way that Compaq had partioned the old drive. He ended up unstalling XP and reverting back to ME.
After the cloning was done the system worked fine in ME but we keep getting an error message when we try to upgrade again to XP. The installation stops and we receive a message that "Microsoft Shared Fax Client" cannot be fully uninstalled by the installer and that we should manually uninstall it using the ADD/REMOVE Programs in the control panel.
We cant find the program in the ADD/REMOVE or in the Windows Components. We assume it is refering to the current OS of ME and not the unistalled OS of XP. XP does have a built in fax program in windows but not ME that I am aware of.
Any help is appreciated. E-mail: (e-mail address removed)
