Due to a major problem with my computer I have had to re-install my XP but
aren't able to get XP 2. When I hit the button to look for updates a new
window opens and the little green bar leeps shooting left to right with the
info that updates are being looked for. This has taken 4 (yes four) hours up
til now and still nothing. Any (simple and easy to understand) instructions
or suggestions will be most welcome.

If I understand you correct, you don't have SP 2, right?

If so you can get the standalone installer at

Wrong NG. You probably want to post it to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup.

It is long probably because so many updates were released since SP1.
You can order the SP2 disk from Microsoft or any MS distributor.

Seems like the last time I had something similar happen I had to
download and install the latest Internet Explorer first, then Windows
Update worked. Worth a try I suppose.

If that doesn't help, you will probably be better off asking in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (FYI this newsgroup is for the
embedded version of XP, not the consumer version).

Dave
