I upgraded from Win98 to XP, not clean install. Everything works fine for a
year until now. I am trying everything to install the XP drivers for the
Epson 1270 via USB. As soon as I clk setup, I get this (gist) Win XP is in
an Abnormal config., can't install.
Someone at Epson suggested that since I used an upgrade and not Clean, I
can't use the 1270 driver, something to do with different Kernels, whatever
they are.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank You.

Hi,

1) They have no idea what they are talking about.

2) An upgrade replaces the Win9x kernel with the the WinXP kernel - totally
and completely. Upgrade or clean install makes no difference.

3) Epson probably needs to fix their installer package, but in the meantime
try using a clean boot before installing the new software, go to section 10
