I'm sure it's probably been flogged to death before on this NG, so I beg
your indulgence.
I've recently switched from Win 98SE to Win XP and now my Dell can't find
my Umax VistaScan 2200,
which was working perfectly prior to the "big switch".
Am I doomed to buy a new scanner, or is there something I can upgrade
(drivers?) at low cost to remedy the situation?
I'm no PC whiz so please type your replies clearly and slowly.

TIA

Umax software downloads.

I selected Vista series (S12, S8, S6)
If this is not your model, then try the above link.

Umax says:
Umax offers no official Windows XP driver for the selected scanner. However,
our tests show that you can access the scanner under Windows XP using
MagicScan Version 4.30 (4 MB) on condition that your SCSI controller is
propery setup up und recognized by the system.

Note that what "CSM1" posted is correct, but if your scanner uses an SCSI
interface, and most of the Umax scanners do, you will probably need to
download and install the ASPI software layer components from Adaptec's web
site. Windows versions through Windows 2000 included it, Windows XP does
*not* include the ASPI software components.
