When Vista is released, you'll be able to upgrade from XP to Vista
while keeping your installed applications. In other words, you'll be
able to install over.

The answer is, generally yes, but it depends on your current version of XP and the version of Vista that you want to upgrade to. See the following chart for the upgrade options.

You also need to make sure that your current system will run Vista. Here is a link to the Vista Upgrade Advisor.

Great information. How the end user will keep track of all this I don't
know.

Will Vista install over XP, or will it require a HD format to get rid of XP?
-Pete

General answer: Yes.

However, if you're running the x86 platform and want to switch to 64 bit -
you have no choice but to do a clean install.
