XP to discontinue support of the "A" drive

I was told by my p.c. repair person that Windows XP will
soon begin to phase out access to the "A" drive because
Microsoft is trying to gut the user community to use
C.D.'s. My "a" drive worked initially, but no longer
works. The repair person explained that because I
downloaded XP updates recently, this process caused
my "A" drive to become inactive. This sounded rather
fishy to me. He went on to say that I should never update
my software with the Microsoft updates.

Can someone please help me understand this situation? I

Your P.C. repair person is full of beans. Take our
computer to a "competent" PC repair technician.

I don't know what your floppy problem is but I can tell you that your "p.c.
repair person" doesn't have a clue. It's time to find another repair person.

Mostly told you a pile of crap to make up for his lack of
troubleshooting skills - don't go there again.

Yes, MS will phase out floppy drives - eventually.

Your floppy not working has nothing to do with Windows Updates.

Don't use any update the first day it was issued. Wait for others to
test it first (unless you enjoy reinstalling your OS). But DO update.
Also turn on your firewall, check your A/V is up to date etc., on a
regular basis.

Don't post your email address in a machine readable form to
newsgroups, forums etc., unless you like receiving Spam, that is.

No offense to you, but alot to your "repair person". Not updating is
the cause of alot of the "hackers using other pps computers to launch DoS
attacks, among other things". You should always update your software.

You really need to find a PC repair facility where the technicians
know something about computers and operating systems. And tell the
alleged "technician" who fed you this line of bull that McDonalds is
hiring, and needs someone of his caliber.

I'm personally quite comfortable with the McDonald's suggestion. My
fast food preferences are Tim Hortons and Burger King. :-)

That is not true. I build systems every day and they all
support a floppy drive A:\ find some one new to work on
your system!!
 
Man, that PC repair person should be drawn and quartered! What nonsense!
Your drive or floppy controller needs replacing, simple as that. It's probably
the drive. And while there have been updates in the past that caused problems
and there will likely be more in the future, the fact of the matter is - it is
crucial that you apply Windows updates with all of the security issues
continually being uncovered. If one goes awry, uninstall it or return to a
previous restore point.
