is it possible to get a machine with XP onto a Apple
network & what needs to be setup apart from TCP/IP

The windows XP machine may need to have Printer sharing for UNIX, enabled.
Otherwise windows OS "should" not have a problem with UNIX networks. But how
the Macintosh will react to the Windows machine, I do not know.

I believe (but have not touched to confirm) that Apple OS X operating
system includes Samba for exposing network shares that can be accessed
by Windows machines, along with using Samba software to connect to
remote shares on the Windows machine. Look for that in your Apple
documentation. This is the same product used in Linux for Windows
networking. www.samba.org.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
