When I was running Win 98, (2 years ago) I burned several CDs using WinOnCD
compressed packet writing. (Yes, I know better now!!)
Now running XP, the Plextor drive is working faultlessly but the software
will not install and there is no upgrade that I can find.
My solution:
1) Buy another hard drive (I need one anyway)
2) Remove the present (XP, NTFS format) HD
3) Install Win 98 on the new HD (from original recovery CD)
4) Install WinOnCD etc., read the CDs to the hard drive
5) Burn the files (.jpg and .psd) to new CDs using proper ISO burning only
6) Reinstall old (XP) HD to get back to today's set-up
7) Install new HD as a slave and reformat it to NTFS
8) Have a computer with additional, new, hard drive on which to store files
that I can now read from the new CDs.
9) Feel excessively pleased with myself, if also very pissed with the agro
that Roxio / CeQuadrat have inflicted on me!
What else do I need to know?? There MUST be a trap here, waiting for the
unwary.
Will I have upset any BIOS settings in this process, that will come back to
haunt me?
Your advice, or a pointer to necessary information, will be very much
appreciated.
I'm just off out to buy the new HD!!
