XP thinks that new Harddrive is a CDROM

My hard and software:

Windows XP with all updates installed.
AntiVir and Zone Alarm.
Athalon 2600 with 512MB of Ram
Geforce FX 5200
CDRW drive 30x12x40(liteon)
1 HD with around 100 gigs
ASROCK mainboard

My problem:

I am trying to install a second Hard drive, a 4.32 gig
Samsung "VG34323A". It is set to "Slave".

The other hard drive is set to "Master" and has always
worked perfectly.

After trying around a few jumper settings with the
SAMSUNG I finally got bios to accept it. I first had it
set to nothing, then Cable Select, then Master and
finally Slave. (I know, I'm far from being a pro when it
comes to hardware)

Once XP booted up, it immediately recognized the new
hardware and installed it. Sadly, it is now installed as
a CD Drive and I can't get access to the files that I
need. Every time I try to open the HD it tells me that I
need to insert a CD first.

I tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting, that
didn't work.
I tried changing some settings in the hardware management
table, which also didn't work.Mainly because I couldn't
find any settings that I could change.
I tried removing my current CDRW from the setup,
disconnecting power cables and IDE (?) cables. (IDE = big
gray cables, right?)

This is how my connection looks like:
Mainboard----(cable)---Master---(cable)---Slave.
They are connected by the same cable.

Here are some screenshots:

The first one shows "My Computer". Drive D: is the hard
drive. As you can see, it doesn't look a HD.

The second one shows my Hardware Properties/Manager/Drive
Thingy.
Anyways, "Laufwerke" means Drive.

Could this have something to do with me having a copy of
Virtual CD on my computer?
If you want any more info, please go ahead and ask. Any
suggestions on how to solve this problem would be greatly
appreciated.

Don't know Virtual CD. I do have Daemon Tools which lets me have up to
4 virtual CD-ROM/DVD drives in my system. I have .iso disk images of
Windows XP Pro, Office XP, and an encyclopedia so when updates or an
application want to read from the "CD" then it will find the files on
the virtual CD instead. Haven't had the problem you described.

Have you check in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to ensure that you are
getting different drive letters assigned to your new 2nd hard drive and
to the CD-RW drive? It sounds like the CD-RW drive used to be your D:
drive, you installed the 2nd hard drive expecting it to become D: and
the CD-RW to move to E:, and so you see D: as the CD-RW drive (because
Windows NT does NOT change drive letters like DOS did) and the 2nd hard
drive never really did get a drive letter assignment.

If you right-click on the D: drive (or what you think is your new 2nd
hard drive), does it have an Eject selection in its context menu? If
so, and when you Eject, does the tray open for the CD-RW drive?

Do you see the new 2nd hard drive listed in the BIOS screens just after
the POST (so you know the BIOS saw it)? If not, check your BIOS
settings to ensure the slave for IDE0 is not disabled (or wherever you
are attaching the new drive).

Try motherboard--> cable-->slave-->cable--->master (master drive on end
furthest from board). Use 80 wire/40 pin IDE cables for hard drives (yes,
the ones provided with a motherboard or drive purchase are typically wide
and grey).

Virtual CD *might* be interfering. I have an older version of the program
installed on my tablet PC and had to fuss with it a bit to get a drive
letter for a "real" DVD/CD drive. May want to try disabling virtual CD
until all of your local drives are in, running and correctly recognized.
Make sure your physical CDrom (or DVD or combo) drive has a letter a bit
down the alphabet. Example: M: So that when Virtual CD is re-enabled it can
fall in between D: and M: Use Disk Management to change the drive letter.

If Virtual CD won't work when you enable it again, you might try
reinstalling it.

Brief suggestion. Check the jumpers on the first harddrive. Some have
a diiferent setting for "Master" and "Master with slave"
