Been doing a lot of reading on using XP Theme's and the comctl library.
Would anyone highly agree that the manifest is the best approach?

Yes.
Even Microsoft does it that way.
Just look in %System32%
There you will find several hidden manifest files.

This is how the readme file translates from babelfish

ThemeUtil Application of consoles for embedding communist manifesto files in
Binaries, in order to let the user surface with Visual Styles indicate.

Intersting. Some years ago I wrote an article about manifest files in
German and used Google's translation service. When reading the
(horrible) translation, I read about the "communist manifesto" too.
Really bad translation.

Does me remind on Fergus, I thought that he was using that also but I did
not know that in that time. Once there was a real strange reply to Herfried,
(it was friendly) I try all the time to remember me, what it was, but I do
not know that anymore.

I remember that too, but I am not sure what he translated...
