Hi Pete,

Run the script here on line 261 (right hand side)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

From there clean your system of the worm(s) you are infected with.

Hi Kelly

Thank you

I found doug's emergency utils further down here and have got the
funcionality back. however , what other damage have I got. I've turned off
System Restore - pc-cillin finds no virus ( i'm always up-to-date )

Should mention i also run Ad-aware and SpyBot-S&D

Should I reload from scratch

Hi

Further to this I found a process called NBRUTE.SCR which when I stopped it
normal functionality returned. I then went and deleted all ocurrences from
the registry as well as other SCR that a search found and all is now fine

Still do not understand why pc-cillin didn,t catch it - maybe someone can
explain

Even with the best antivirus program that is kept current with virus
definitions installed, there will be a window of time that the computer is
vulnerable. New viruses are discovered every day. After discovery, these
have to be analyzed. Then new virus definitions created and distributed.

Consequently, staying up to date with the virus definitions, affords you
better protection but not 100%. Increase your odds for keeping the system
clean by practicing "safe computing." Attachments are one of the main
avenues used to infect a system. Avoid opening any attachments you were't
expecting and don't open *any* attachments without scanning them first.
