Is there a way to speed this up a bit I am running over 1
g memory a new soyo motherboard athlon xp 2400 processor
and yet it takes over 3 minutes from when I first see the
windows logo until the blue screen comes on and xp
actually starts what is the problem???

Even though microsoft no longer provides this program, if you were to use it you may find that it decreases you boot time. The name of the program is bootvis, but good luck finding it anywhere

I am having the same problem as Mike. I did find the
bootvis.exe program on the net (do a Google search)and it
showed almost two minutes consumed by the logon and
services events. The logon screen is coming uo quickly so
the problem appears to be loading the services. I tried
diabling just about all of them (a few at a time) but
that did not solve the problem. But I do suspect the
problem to be due to the services, I have tried
everything else under the sun (except buy a Mac!).
Anybody have any ideas?
