XP System Restore Isn't Restoring

I have eight check points to choose from over the last week. When I select
one to restore to, it goes through the "restoring system" process, reboots,
then says it was unable to restore.

What am I doing wrong? Can this be fixed?

Your not doing anything wrong this happens sometimes.But
it can be fixed really easy.Your system restore (volune)
files are corrupted,you need to turn off system restore
and reboot,this will remove all restore files (and
checkpoints) once rebooted turn system restore back on
and reboot again this will fix the corruption and create
a new restore point.Later

I understand what you're saying, but this problem/fix doesn't appear to
"fix" the reason I need to restore (repair) the system. Is this another
example of Micro$oft dropping the ball?
