XP switched my drives

I have a COMPAQ computer with two hard drives. The C drive is 16g and
has always been the local disc and the main destination for all of the
programs that I have installed. The D (3g) drive has always been the
system save. I have just upgraded to XP from ME. Now everything that
I try to install goes to the D drive by default. There is not enough
room there for any thing except the windows files. I keep getting a
window that tells me I am low on resouces and both drives are suspended
because one has too much stuff on it.
Can I make my computer act like it used?
Any help would be great.

Hi,

Did you install XP to "D"? If so, you might want to reconsider and install
it to "C" as 3GB is really inadequate for an XP installation. As to
installing software, just use custom installation as most setup routines
will allow you to change the destination for installation. You can change
the registery for the default, but most programs setups will still default
to the drive housing Windows.
