I recently installed a new driver for an Aztech CNR dial-up modem, to
cure my PC of the dreaded, "you ignored an incoming call" pop-up (&
knock-em'off-line) window feature (made-in-Hell) call waiting "the
future of technology" assistant, (pardon) that nobody seems to fully
understand (the answer it seems, is to rip out your heart - er, modem
- and buy one that isn't named after a mysterious indigenous folk with
dodgy rituals and mountain-top runways designed for alien spacecraft).
Anyway, the point is my XP Homey won't wake from standby - or at least
my monitor won't, so I was forced to roll-back the driver to cure the
problem. I'm not very technical, so I'll just say that whilst my
existing driver version had lots of numbers, the new one went one
further. It said it was for Windows XP, genuine Smartlink - and looked
like the right choice. Unfortunately, I didn't have it installed long
enough to find out if it cured the problem I'd hoped it would fix. The
solutions on offer to cure the pop-up are endless (granny's old
remedies really, "patting 'yer head whilst rubbin 'yer tummy
nonsense").
Sensible answers only - or not at all, on a postcard... and a free
something or other if somebody knows the solution to the pop-up
fiasco. Which after all, is why I was forced to get reee--eel
technical in the first place!
