I have recently started getting the blue screen stop error as follows:
Kernal_Data_Inpage_Error
Stop: 0x0000007A (0xC03E19B8, 0xC000000E, 0xF866E50C, 0x100DD860)
Atapi.sys - Address F866E50C base at F8661000
Any idea what my issue is? Failing hard drive?
Is the error really:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (not kernal)?
I would suspect bad RAM or a corrupted Page File.
Since it sounds like you can recreate with your screen saver
(recreating is good), start with the easy stuff first.
It is easy to create a new pagefile, but before you do make note of
the current settings because you are going to be changing them.
Unless you know more about managing memory that XP, the settings are
usually "System managed size".
1. Go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "System", "Advanced"
tab, in the "Performance"
section select "Settings", "Advanced" tab, in the "Virtual Memory"
make a note of the current
settings, section select "Change". Change the values to 0. Click OK,
etc.
2. Delete c:\pagefile.sys
If you cannot see the pagefile.sys, in Explorer, click View, Folder
Options, tick "Show hidden files and folders" and UNtick Hide
extensions for known file types. Now you should be able to find
pagefile.sys. Delete it.
3. Reboot Windows and verify pagefile.sys is gone.
4. Go to "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel", "System", "Advanced"
tab, in the "Performance"
section select "Settings", "Advanced" tab, in the "Virtual Memory"
section select "Change".
Change the values to System managed size or whatever it was to begin
with.
5. Reboot Windows
Double check the settings again and also check to be sure c:
\pagefile.sys now exists.
I would also run a check disk on the next reboot:

You can run memtest86+ from a bootable CD you have to create:
http://www.memtest.org/
memtest86+ supercedes memtest86 and here is why:
