Hi,

I have a problem with a PC running Win XP Pro. On startup OS loads as far as
the XP Logo and the animated coloured bar and then the screen goes black and
nothing else happens. I have been able to start the PC in Safe mode and I
have checked the Device Manager & System information to check for error
messages, conflicts etc but nothing seems to be wrong with hardware.

Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Graphics adapter - NVidia GeForce 2 MX/100/200

Also if I need to re-install what do I need - disk is formatted with NTFS,
(I've never done before).

Cheers

Nick

you can reinstall windows with the original cd and running your pc from the cd (pushing F8 when the BIOS is starting)...
follow the steps on screen...
if you dont have any service pack or hotfix, no problem, but if you have, you can lose these...
is very safe to reinstall windows... ;)

Boot the machine into Safe Mode.

Then use Start - All Programs - System Tools - System Restore and
select the most recent restore point that is prior to the onset of the
problem.

Anything you have installed or updated since the date of that restore
point will have to be redone. But be careful - one of these is
probably the cause of your problem.

Good luck
