XP startup hangs when Iomega Zip drive attached

On my new Compaq w/ XP Home Edition, I found that with an
external Iomega 100MB Zip Drive (USB) attached, XP will
not load; the initialization stops when it gets to the
screen that lets you press F1 for Setup or F10 to
recover/restore the system.

I suspect that the machine "sees" the zip drive, but
without a disk in it, it waits forever to see if it
should be booting the operating system from there.

Has anyone run into this, and if my suspicion is correct,
do you know a way around it other than leaving the Zip
drive USB cable unattached? (The drive works fine if I
plug it in after XP loads.)

Hi Mark,

Enter the system BIOS (with zip attached), see if the zip drive is set to
boot before the floppy, CD, or hard drives. Move it back down the scale or
remove it from the boot order altogether. Exit saving changes and reboot.
See if this helps.
