Hi,
Went to start an application the other day and my computer made a slight
grinding noise and locked up. I restarted the machine the machine and got
to the "Your computer had a problem page, what mode do you wish to start in"
message.
I select safe mode, a few seconds later it has restarted and is back on to
the same screen, so this time I select normal mode, a few seconds later its
again back at the same screen.
Next I boot into the 2nd hdd which is running Win2k, I navigate to explorer
and double click on the c:/ icon, after about 3 minutes later I am
presented with an error message stating "This drive is not formatted, would
you like to format it now ?"
Accepting now that I have probably lost all of my data I proceed to
reinstall the operating system on to the c: drive, I put the XP disk in and
boot from it, it does a few checks etc.. next I select the partition where
I would like to install it, select format, the progress bar moves slowly up
until about 20% then it moves up to 100% very quickly and produces the
message that XP was unable to format this drive (it gives the same message
whether I choose quick or normal format)
Is this is a disk that has simply died or could it be something more
sinister ??
Thanks is advance,
Andy.
