Have a problem on a friends PC. XP starts then window pops up saying system
is shutting down in 30 seconds which it does then restarts and keeps doing
the same. Do not seem to be able to get virus checker running before
computer shuts down. Any Suggestions.

Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan, it sounds like your friend is beeing infected by MS Blaster Virus.
If this is the case and in order to correct the issue, I would suggest to
tell your friend to:

1-run SERVICES.MSC /S
2- Double click on "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)"
3- Select Recovery Tab
4-Select "Restart the Service" next to First failure, second failure,
Subsequent failure.
5-Click on Apply

This will then prevent computer from rebooting and will give you necessary
time to clean Virus using following link
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp#

Best Regards.
Fred

go to start-run
type in shutdown -a
that will stop the pc from shutting down.
then go to microsoft.com to find the patch, it's probably
blaster.worm

Ya'all have a virus. Disconnect from the Internet and run an update Virus scanner.
