xp start up problem

when i start XP pro , it goes to my log on page and thats it i do not see any
icons or startup button, it stays there as my desktop back ground , tried to
reboot, tried to used cd, tried to do last known configuration, nothing helps,
any one please help me out, even tried to reinstall, still nothing works

If you can get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore to take you back to
a time prior to when this began. Boot the system, start tapping F8 and
continue to do so until the menu appears, select Safe Mode and press enter.
If you never made a password for the hidden administrator account shown at
Safe Mode login, select that account, leave the password blank and press
enter. You should then be offered to the opportunity to go to System
Restore.

If that fails to resolve it, try treating this as a corrupted user profile
as outlined in the two Knowledge Base Articles to which I've provided links
below:
