when I start my computer I get a black screen with the
message, Non-System disk or disk error. Replace and
strike any key when ready.
How do I get my computer to start in the correct manner?

Do you have a floppy in the floppy drive or a CD in the
CDROM drive?

Remove it then press any key to continue.

Hello
Sounds like harddrive failure.

Hello
Well when I leave a floppy in it tells me something like, non-bootable
device detected remove and press any key to restart.

I still say the HDD is crapped out.

Do you have a floppy disk in, or a cd in the cdrom??
Especially a floppy disk in will send out this message.
Just take out the floppy and hit any key.

*Non system disk or disk error* is *EXACTLY* the message you receive when
you leave a floppy in the drive.
