Xp start menu lag

I am running XP Pro SP2 on Intel C2D8400,Msi P35 mobo,2Gb ddr2,NVidia 9600GT
and Seagate 500Gb Hdd. Often, but not always, when I try to open up the
[All Programs] list in the start menu, it can take up to 10 to 20 sec before
it
will fill in the list of programs. Everything else seems to run just fine.
I've already check the obvious (adware, etc). Adding more RAM did nothing
to speed this up. It started only recently when I added 500 or more icons in
my start menu with the installation of a lot of yahoo mini games for my kids.
It goes back to normal if I deleted all the shortcut in the start menu. but
how am my kids going to play the games just without the shortcut. It will
turn worse once I exit the game and try to access the start menu again, it
will pause or hang for 60 or more sec before I can see or access the icons in
the start menu again. Need help please.
 
it needs time to prepare (cache) that 500 icons before it popos them for
you.
Why not group 5000 icons in folders? Anyway your kids cannot select if there
are 500!
 
Well I had categorized them as puzzle games, words games and etc and each of
the categorized may have about 50 games in each folder in the start menu
folder itself. In fact is that Win XP just cant support that much icon or do
you have any other idea to solve this laggy problem?

Increase icon cache size ?

This might help.. might not. It's really for a problem where the wrong
icons are placed on shortcuts, but I imagine it helping with the loading
of so many icons too:

Thanks you everyone for so helpful. Increase Icon Cache tweak already applied
before hand if not the lag is worst, it will pause or hang for 2 to 3 minutes
or maybe longer. After tweak it pause or hang reduce to around 60 seconds.
Any other tweak may help?

More RAM or an increased icon cache size (if possible), come to mind.
 
After increase icon cache, delete menu order and iconcache.db it works. No
more delay. The start menu just pop up the way like before but not after when
I exiting from some of the games not all the games and reaccess the start
menu again. It will lag again. I noticed that when I booted the computer with
the start menu is fast the iconcache.db file size is 11.2mb and when it goes
lag again after I exit from certain games the iconcache.db file size had
shrink to 1 to 3 mb. Can I do anything to stop the iconcache.db to shrink so
to avoid this lag? It will be super fast as long as the iconcache.db file
size is maintain at 11.2mb even though if exited from some games but funny
when exited from so other games its size shrink.

Sorry, I don't know any way to lock the size..
