One of the things I hate about Windows XP, the auto-hide "feature" of
the Start Button/Programs listing. Is there a utility that can disable
this feature (or an XP setting)?

Thanks!

Turn off autohide:
1/ right-click on the task bar (on an empty space)
2/ select properties
3/ untick "autohide the task bar"

try this...

right-click on the start button

a menu will appear. choose 'properties'

'taskbar and start menu properties' appears

click the 'taskbar' tab

un-check 'auto-hide the taskbar'

hit 'ok'

your start menu and task bar shouldn't hide itself anymore

The OP is not on about the 'taskbar' he means the infuriating
habit (in XP) of the start/programs section hiding little used
programs. I would like to know how to disable this as well

Start\Control Panel\Taskbar and Start Menu\Taskbar

Uncheck, "Hide Inactive Icons."

If you are using the Classic Start Menu, you can stop the auto-hiding by
going to Settings -> Control Panel -> Taskbar and Start Menu.
On the Start Menu tab, click the Customize button. Under Advanced Start
Menu options, make sure Use Personalized Menus is UNCHECKED.

I'm not sure if this works with the Windows XP Start Menu.

Eric
