Not unless you can be much more specific about your hardware and
software configuration, and exactly what you mean by "so slow."

Neither Windows XP nor any other version of Windows NT has
scandisk. The XP equivalent is called chkdsk.

Enter chkdsk at the Start | Run line.

The two easy ones first:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools
Scandisk is now called checkdisk - CHKDSK.EXE
Slow processes in WindowsXP is usually caused by too many programs
loading at boot using your valuable system resources. You can stop that by:
Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and press OK
Click the Startup tab and disable/uncheck everything except your anti-virus
program, if Norton, it will start with NAV. Click Apply and Close then reboot.
Close the window stating you've changed your startup after reboot. Voila!

You can also access the Check Disk Tool from: Start/My Computer/right click
the Hard Drive [probably "C"]/left click "Properties" on the Drop Down
Menu/left click the "Tools" Tab/here the "Check Disk Tool' is called "Error
Checking'.

You've just installed? Try a cleanup and run disk defragmenter. XP will
start to optimize itself within the first few weeks but a few extra runs of
the optimizing disk defragmenter will help speed things along.

Forget scandisk and check out chkdsk in Help and Support.
