XP speakers?

I've recently upgraded from millenium to XP and cannot get my speakers to play. I've checked connections and they are ok. Everything appears to be working. when I play a CD on my computer you can see the computer working as if it were playing but I have no sound.
 
Take another look, and make sure you don't have the speakers plugged into
the microphone jack.

Golftree-

I had the same problem when I upgraded the same. Look in your speaker
selection file and make sure that it's not muted and is set for digital. The
default setting when you upgrade changes to analog.

Go to the web site for your sound card and download the proper drivers for
XP.
