XP SP3 install causes mapped drives to open in Notepad

After running current Windows updates I have a problem with mapped drives.
When you launch My Computer and click on a mapped drive it launches Notepad.
If you use Windows Explorer you can click on the mapped drive and it works
fine.

Perhaps try to re-create the mappings.

I did try that and the mapped drives still launch notepad.

I did try that and the mapped drives still launch notepad.

What extension does the mapped link create? You may just have to
reassociate it with explorer.exe.
