what is it?

I need to find a specific device by this identifier:
\DEVICE\TCPIP_{28F855B0-233F-4830-8CC9-B7C351EBD5D3}

What is the most efficient way to do it?

Thank you.

"Find" in what way?

Please describe what you mean by 'find'...

How is the question not simple enough for you? Please explain.

I would think it obvious to the most casual observer, even no-life Help

That first response was to your link. "Google is your friend" is something I
know, having achieved first place in the SERPs for my keywords.

By "find," I mean determine what the device is. It is causing an error id
4202 in conjunction with a network adapter.

Sorry for the first curt reply. My first time here, yesterday attracted
some real loser-trolls.

- Do you want to find it - as in discover what it is so you can get a driver
for it...?
- Do you want to find it in a script/program so that if that ID exists when
someone runs said script/program, something specific happens?
- Do you want to run a script/program against a group of machines and find
everyone that has that ID (similar to the above - just another example of
why you might want to 'find' it.)

If you need the driver for a singular device - figure out what devices you
have in your computer (manual, specifications, list of drivers for your
make/model from the OEM, etc) and then deduce which one does not have a
driver and grab that.

If you need to write a script/program to find said device and then do
something specific - you will need to provide more details and may be better
off posting elsewhere - as this is the newsgroup for peer-to-peer support
with the "Help and Support" feature in Windows XP - so even though it is
already off-topic due to misunderstanding of the group title/purpose by
many - it would be even more off topic for scripting/programming in whatever
language you choose.

Hello,

since you are here asking for help I suggest you be polite even to those who
cannot give you a correct and staight forward answer.

I will explain why, its very hard to identify the device only from the
information you give.. and that’s why no one is solving your problem.

The only way I can think of you finding it is using a software

NOTE I have not used the below I just googled for it but it may work for
you, if it does please tell me since I would like to know

Yes I read the post he replied to. Would you care to explain why it deserves
insults?

DID YOU READ the post he replied to, or are you showing early signs of
Alzheimer's?

"hoople head" was first with the "insults".

Gentlemen, gentlemen..."hoople head" has got to be one of the most
benign taunts I've encountered in these newsgroups. Show some restraint,
you nincompoops.

Balderdash!!

I think I sort of solved this, but for future reference, I'll try this:

"Using XP SP3, I've determined a certain device { name here } is
disconnecting through a network adapter, to wit Error ID 4202 gives me this {
name } in alphanumeric format. Using that format, how can I use XP to
determine what that is?"

"Search" hasn't helped, nor has any list of devices and/or adapters.

Other posters may come along later. This is how it ended.

BTW, I was a big fan of "Mott the Hoople" in the day and may correctly be
called a hoople head in certain obscure regional dialects.
