XP SP2---won't install unless on AC

Hi,
I'm running XP-Home on a Toshiba Satellite A45-S121, which I've recently
reformatted with the factory disk. I'm now unable to install SP2 as the
"Power Saver" utility is messed-up and indicates I am running on battery
(even when the battery is removed!). I've been unable to get the problem
fixed or addressed by Toshiba, even though it's a known issue on OTHER
models. So I'm wondering if there's any way to get SP2 through another
means. Does anyone know if I can obtain it on disk or from a different
source which doesn't have the "must be on AC" component?

Thank you kindly,
Karen

BTW: I reformatted and updated this same way last April and did not have
this problem. I really cannot afford the Vista upgrade at this time.

Thank you very very much. I've ordered the CD ($3.29 shipping only).
Also, iGo (WallPower adapter) is sending me a new tip which might solve the
AC/DC recognition issue. It's the L2 tip if anyone else is having the same
problem.
Thanks again,
Karen
